What is Social Intelligence (SI)?
SOCIAL INTELLIGENCE IS NOT A TECHNIQUE. IT IS AN ABILITY.
Social Intelligence is a combination of both emotional and interpersonal intelligence.
Its the Intuitive Ability to:
1. Be acutely aware of one’s own (true) thoughts and feelings and to understand how these emotions are being displayed through our own non-verbal communication
2. Possess an expert understanding of others’ underlying (often subconscious) thoughts and feelings conveyed by their non-verbal communication.
Non-verbal communication is everything that is not a word. As we speak, our brains are taking in micro-expressions, voice intonations, physical gestures and pheromones. Socially intelligent people are able to comprehend and speak the language of non-verbal communication.
Learning to intuitively understand and interact with others in a socially fluent manner allows for the ability to influence behavior in a distinctly powerful and positive manner.
Social Awareness: How you respond to others
Social Facility: Knowing how to have smooth, effective interactions
Influence Social Perception
Few people have mastered the fine art of Impression Management Skills.
Persons with high SI are concerned with the impression they are making on others. They engage in what is sometimes referred to as the “Dangerous Art of Impression Management,” ~ a delicate balance between managing and controlling the image you portray to others and being reasonably “authentic” and letting others see the true self. This is perhaps the most complex and powerful element of social intelligence.
